  • RESIDENTIAL SERVICES ASSISTANT
    Location: Tucson
    Employee Status: Permanent
    Hours Per Week: 40
    Work Calendar: 10-Month
    Pay Rate: $12.00
    Positions Available: 3 in the Blind Dorms
    1 in the Deaf/HH Dorms
    CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    CPR certification and/or lifesaving techniques and CIT certification or obtain within the first 90 days of employment. Applicant must possess at least three of the following qualifications:
    High school graduate or GED
    College course work in a related field
    Experience in behavior management techniques
    Experience working with children--visually impaired, deaf, or multiply disabled

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    All of the above qualifications; experience in a residential setting with visually impaired, deaf, or multiply disabled children

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents; implement planned activities; implement established behavior management programs; escort students to specific functions; work with individuals and/or groups of students; assist students with activities of daily living; supervise students in regularly scheduled activities (i.e., meals, off-campus trips); meet with responsible professionals to discuss problems, methods, assignments, etc.; may need to assist students with toileting and personal hygiene needs; safely lift and transport non-ambulatory students; help maintain files; submit written reports upon request; assist in preparation of materials; accept direction from staff and implement programs; analyze a situation and take appropriate action; ability to work alone with students; other duties as assigned by the Master Teaching parent or Teaching Parents.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
    Some positions working with multiply disabled student require beginning sign language. Positions working with deaf students need proficiency in receptive and expressive ASL. Positions working with visually impaired students may require knowledge of braille or the willingness to learn.
    SPECIAL CONDITIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Must utilize appropriate personal protective equipment as required.
