In June 2007, Odessa Regional Hospital purchased Alliance Hospital and changed its name to Odessa Regional Medical Center to reflect its larger campus and more comprehensive services. In 2015, ORMC acquired Basin Healthcare Center. The hospital has 225 beds and has approximately 250 physicians on staff and has over 700 employees.
Today, ORMC offers a wide spectrum of healthcare services, including advanced diagnostic imaging technology, emergency care, innovative surgical procedures, maternity care, comprehensive cardiac services and general medical care.
About the Shift:
CRT/RRT - Respiratory Therapist
About the Position:
Under the supervision of the Director of Respiratory Therapy, the Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing cardiopulmonary care services in accordance with specific physicians orders, department policies and procedures. Participates in Performance Improvement Activities. Provides service to age range from neonate to geriatric.
Maintains knowledge of the various methods of oxygen delivery, including the necessary equipment. Remains alert, assesses possible side effects to oxygen delivery. |
Maintain high degree of competency in the setting up, operation and troubleshooting of the Vapotherm, BiPap and High Flow as well as the critical care duties |
Administers respiratory therapy treatments, understands the purpose of each and the possible side effects associated with each |
Sets-up, monitors and troubleshoots the mechanical ventilators and the associated critical care duties required for such treatment, such as airway management and tracheal suctioning. |
Able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention. |
Demonstrates the skills to operate the Blood Gas Analyzers to include: cartridge change out, external calibration, maintenance, review of QC and Calibrations and troubleshooting |
Articulates and demonstrates the skills: arterial punctures, capillary and line draws to obtain blood samples for blood gas analysis, and can explain the possible complications and contraindications associated with the procedure |
Follows departmental equipment sterilization procedures. |
Can articulate in importance of all pertinent data on the patients medical record following completion of any service. |
Maintains a thorough knowledge of CERNER documentation program, Pyxis, and their proper usage |
Achieves and maintains a medication scanning average of greater than 95% |
Achieves and maintains a patient armband scanning average of greater than 95% |
Performs all duties as outlined in the Shift Responsibilities section for the shift that the therapist works. |
Maintains minimum levels (PAR Level) of supplies in storage areas in all respiratory supply areas |
Performs EKGs, prints report interpretations, assigns patients name to EKG, charges for the EKG, Clears task from task list and places report in patient chart |
Maintains cleaning and storage areas to promote a safe environment. |
Performs all duties as assigned by the Department Director and/or Supervisor |
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the differences in techniques and treatment modalities as performed on patients of varying ages, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients, as well as the general patient population. |
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of oxygen concentrations and medication doses as they relate to patients of varying ages, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients. |
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of oxygen concentrations and medication doses as they relate to the neonatal patient |
Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. |
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. |
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently. |
Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs of a patient and evaluates effectiveness of learning, Patients family is included in teaching as appropriate. |
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients needs are met and that hospital policy is followed. |
Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric, and general population. (See Performance Evaluation Age-Related Competency) |
Demonstrates ability to assess patient, his/her need, and ability to tolerate treatment and reassessment for response to treatment. |
Sets up, monitors, documentation and performs monthly calibrations on the INOVENT along with the associated critical care duties required for such treatment.. |
Maintains clinical knowledge and skills for the stroke patient population. Completes on going staff educational opportunities including competencies for all levels and departments interacting with Stroke population. |
Resource of the hospital for the care of the stroke patients regardless of the admitting diagnosis of the patient. |
Ability to manage and coordinate stroke patient care during and post hospitalization |
Articulates and demonstrates the skills to work in all areas, including CCU, NICU, ER and floor areas, on a consistent basis. |
Articulates and demonstrates the skills to work in the NICU Area on a consistent basis. |
Articulates and demonstrates the skills to perform intubations for adult and pediatric patients |
Articulates and demonstrates the skills to perform intubation for Neonatal patients |
Demonstrates the skills to perform all required duties for in-house transport |
Regulatory Requirements:
- Current TMB Respiratory Therapist Licensure.
- Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Respiratory Therapy.
- Current NPR Certifications - if working in the NICU
- Current BLS certification, ACLS and PALS
- Current Stable Certification for NICU, if working in NICU
- Fire safety training
Language Skills:
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Additional languages optional.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
Skills:
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to use blood gas analyzers, ventilators, EKG, bedside PFT
- Ability to perform chest PT.
- Current yearly skills competency testing
