Odessa Regional Medical Center was founded in 1975 as Odessa Womens and Childrens Hospital. Through the years, the hospital grew and evolved into a full-service healthcare facility and the name was changed to Odessa Regional Medical Center to reflect its larger campus and more comprehensive services. The hospital has 225 beds and has approximately 250 physicians on staff and has over 700 employees.

Today, ORMC offers a wide spectrum of healthcare services, including advanced diagnostic imaging technology, emergency care, innovative surgical procedures, maternity care, comprehensive cardiac services and general medical care.

About the Shift:

RN - Full Time for ER- 7a - 7p - Sign-On Bonus of $10,000.

About the Position:

The charge nurse will assume responsibility of the entire unit. They are responsible for overseeing the care provided to each patient, including the waiting room patients. To do so they will provide leadership and management thru consistent support, decision making and example.

The unit flow will be managed by assignment of rooms based on acuity taking into consideration all aspects of patient safety, comfort and privacy. Each decision impacts each patient and each staff member and will be made with caution.

Upon arrival on the unit, the on-coming charge nurse will review the unit huddle book to familiarize themselves and staff with changes as well as review the tracking board for appropriate assignments.

Prior to leaving shift, all EKGs will be assigned to patient properly and all chart for the designated shift will be checked for charges and disposition in addition.

The Charge Nurse is also responsible for being a conduit for the physician and providers to facilitate flow and patient care. Additional duties will include decisions for productivity and staffing challenges. As an example to the staff the charge nurse must be able to provide copies of all up to date required competencies and will jeopardize their position with any lapse in certification.

Regulatory Requirements:

  • BSN from an accredited nursing program preferred.
  • 18 months acute/critical care experience preferred
  • Current Registered Nurse license within the state of practice.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • ACLS certified within six (6) months of hire.
  • PALS within one (1) year of hire.
  • TNCC within one (1) year of hire.
  • ENPC preferred.
  • CEN preferred.
