Scope of the Position

This job will provide support to maintain a safe, plant work environment. The objective for this person is promoting safety in the work place, and ensuring compliance of applicable laws and regulations. Must be a self-starter and enthusiastic about safety. This position will report to the Safety Manager. This is a facility that staffs for three shifts. A successful candidate will be able to adjust their schedule to accomodate training needs on other shifts when needed.

Responsibilities

Developing and Maintaining Health, Safety and Policies, Procedures and Programs and related that affect the overall wellbeing of the plant population according to established OSHA standards;
Scheduling and conducting training that meets OSHA standards to educate associates on safe and environmental conscious work practices; company policies and programs
Identifying and mitigating hazardous safety conditions and practices;
Develop, train and manage health and safety at all levels
Develop and implement action plans for reducing workers comp costs;
Manage First Responder team;
Manage OSHA Accident / Injury Log;
File all 1st reports of injuries, accident information and medical claims with WC carrier;
Advise Staff of trends in Lost Time Accidents, Severity and Recordable trends;
Assist line and staff management to understand OSHA and related regulations and standards, including guidance on handling compliance inspections and citations.
Overview plant accident / incident statistics, workplace hazards, and making recommendations for correction root cause and coordinating corrective action plans as assigned.
Plan and direct safety and industrial hygiene services required for annual testing and new product launch;
Assess new developments in the health, safety field which may have application to the company's operation.

Qualifications

To successfully perform the requirements of this position, the incumbent should have a BS degree in Safety Management or related degree. Professional certification in Safety is a plus. (i.e. ASP, CSP, certified competent person, fall protection, Scaffold, First responder etc.)
A minimum of 3 to 5 years or equivalent experience in managing technical occupational safety and health compliance issues and complex activities.
Understanding of OSHA, IOSHA, NFPA, ANSI and all other governmental regulations which apply to industrial operations.
Familiar with NFPA Life Safety Code, fire safety practices and property insurance requirements.
Familiar with Industrial Hygiene principles used to evaluate chemical selection, use and storage, and employee exposures to hazardous work operations
Good communication skills both oral, written and math. Organizational ability, detail-minded. Proven attendance and safety records with the ability to work in a team environment are necessary.
Knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications, including Word, Project, PowerPoint and Excel.
