TITLE: Safety Monitor

REPORTS TO: SAFETY COORDINATOR

HOME BASE: EL PASO

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

The Safety Monitor will oversee the safety of the facility and is responsible for the safety of clients in a residential housing facility, which include ensuring consistent implementation of program procedures, organization, and management of data and related documentation. Promotes a work environment conducive to safety and effective communication, collaboration, team building and professionalism. Promotes collaborations and partnerships with other departments to provide a comprehensive continuum of services to clients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent education and 1-year related employment experience.
  • Preferred 3 years of relevant experience in security.
  • Ability to obtain fingerprint clearance card, CPR, CPI and First Aid Certifications.
  • Bilingual language skills in English/Spanish and as appropriate to population served required.
  • Must be computer literate and possess basic computer skills, such as data entry and usage of Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to report to work in cases of emergencies.
  • Cleared background check from appropriate entity.
  • Cleared drug test results.
  • Able to follow technical instructions.
  • Ability to build a strong, dedicated team.
  • Ability to apply empathy and culturally sensitive when working with clients and staff
  • Training, education and experience in community outreach, public health or social work preferred.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES

  • Work with security, medical, and youth care personnel to provide a safe environment both physically and emotionally for clients.
  • Ensures the safe conduct of emergency evacuations in coordination with other departments.
  • Develop monitoring activities that capture necessary data to report on program results.
  • Displays temperament to work with and care for youth, and to be culturally sensitive to the diverse populations.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to compile, organize, and review information and use established guidelines or procedures to determine the appropriate course of action in daily work situations.
  • Must be available to fill in positions where needed when asked, this includes support in Pods, hallways, medical coordination, shower schedules, food schedules, and recreation.
  • May be required to accompany Clients in various situations, i.e. remain in medical area with client indefinitely, travel and stay with clients for hospital trips.
  • Must have excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy. Works effectively and relates well with others including superior, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside of the agency.
  • Exhibits professional manner in dealing with others and works to maintain constructive working relationships. Ability to represent agency effectively in a variety of settings with diverse communities. Demonstrated understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures.
  • Strong attention to detail and well organized.
  • Must be able to maintain a calm, non-defensive, supportive attitude during crisis or potential crisis situations.
  • Must be team oriented.
