POSITION SUMMARY:


This position requires utilization of clinical knowledge to schedule appropriate procedures/surgeries per providers orders. The Scheduling Coordinator must schedule office-based and hospital procedures consistent with the patients diagnosis and procedure request. Also requires excellent customer service skills with patients and employees. The Surgical Scheduler must be able to respond to both written and oral correspondence regarding scheduling changes/cancellations in a timely, accurate manner. Individual must be organized, and be able to manage demanding workload with accuracy in a busy practice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinating procedures with other departments/providers
  • Obtaining necessary authorizations and referrals
  • Tracking charge entry for surgical procedures
  • Setting up pre-operative appointments and tests for patients
  • Sending pre-surgical correspondence and confirmations to patients
  • Assisting other administrative staff as needed, with scheduling appointments, preparing charts, etc.
  • Greeting registering and directing patients
  • Answering telephones and taking detailed messages for physicians, physician assistants and/or medical assistants
  • Data entry of patients information, insurance referring physician and PCP information
  • Verifying insurance eligibility
  • Scheduling / rescheduling appointments, scheduling follow-ups, testing, labs, etc.
  • Copayment entry, sending no show letters to patients
  • Scanning medical records into the electronic health record
  • Order and track office supply inventory

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Experience with electronic medical record strongly preferred (Athena/ECW a plus)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Outlook preferred
  • General understanding of medical terminology required

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, 2-4 year degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of health care experience preferred
  • Some travel may be required within the market
