    DEFINITION: Under basic supervision, monitors, trains, tests and evaluates school bus drivers and oversees completion of State and Federal documents in transportation for Sunnyside Unified School District.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    TASKS:
    Transports students to and from school; assures the safety of all passengers being transported; performs daily vehicle inspections; teaches required State of Arizona classroom instructions for school bus certification and commercial driver license for new school bus trainees; completes and updates all required certification documents.

    Provides behind-the-wheel training for school bus certification and prepares school bus trainees for commercial driver license testing and skills testing; conducts renewal training certifications; assures compliance with State and Federal regulations; monitors school bus drivers on the road; assists in investigating school bus accidents; trains crossing guards in the proper procedures for safely crossing students at school crosswalks; conducts mandatory school bus evacuation drills; performs related duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
    Knowledge of Federal and State rules, regulations and laws governing school bus driving.
    Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
    Knowledge of motor vehicle laws, especially pertaining to school bus operations.
    Knowledge of school bus inspections and procedures.
    Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures.
    Skill in operating and driving a school bus.
    Skill in training employees on proper procedures of driving a school bus.
    Skill in monitoring students and keeping order while driving.
    Skill in following oral and written instructions.
    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Work requires frequent driving, walking, standing, sitting, bending and may be required to lift up to 25 pounds. May be exposed to moving equipment, extreme weather conditions and infectious diseases.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    High School Diploma or equivalent, and five (5) years as a school bus driver and one (1) year experience as a certified school bus instructor, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
    Must possess an Arizona commercial drivers license and school bus driver certification.
    Additional certifications may also be required as specified by the District.
    Must possess CPR and first aid instructor certification.

    Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.

    Salary Grade: 12 Hourly Pay: $13.38 Hours per Day: 8 Days in Contract: 260
    Start Date: November 2020
