Definition:
Under general supervision from the School Principal/Administrator, the Gifted School Teacher creates a flexible program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishes effective rapport with students; motivates students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for secondary or post -secondary, in accordance with each students ability; establishes good relationships with parents and other staff members.

Job Duties

  • Plans and implements an instructional program and provides services for students identified for gifted services in grades K-6.
  • Develops and implements a system for screening and identifying students with high potential.
  • Develops and monitors a continuum of evidence-based services with an acceleration plan in place.
  • Develops, implements and monitors meaningful educational plans for students with rigorous and challenging curriculum available to differentiate services for the gifted learner; ensures the performance of gifted students will be increased or maintained at high levels.
  • Monitors to ensure students are making learning gains.
  • Develops and monitors a system for evaluating the gifted program to facilitate effective changes as needed.
  • Works closely with and supports general education teachers.
  • Teaches designated subject matter to students in a classroom, utilizing course of study approved by Teaching and Learning Administrator and Student Services Administrator.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the rigorous curriculum to the academic needs of each student.
  • Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional and accelerated learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluates students academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students progress and interpret the schools gifted program.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Participation in on-going professional development trainings as required.

Knowledge of:
  • Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards and Arizona State Academic Standards for grade levels/subject area assigned
  • Content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment required for working with identified gifted students
  • Current curriculum and instruction
Skilled in:
  • Implementation of effective classroom management
  • Oral and written communication/interpersonal skills
  • Teaching reading as a process
Ability to:
  • Work with youth who are reluctant learners
  • Promote critical thinking and engaged learning
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with administrators, colleagues, administrators and parents/guardians
  • Effectively instruct; and maintain emotional control under stress
  • Develop course goals and handle multiple priorities in an efficient manner
  • Embrace change and challenges in a positive and professional manner
Minimum Qualifications

Education and experience: Bachelors degree from accredited college or university. Must hold current valid Arizona teaching certificate, with required endorsement(s) and/or approved area(s) for subject(s)/level(s) assigned.

  • Must be appropriately certified in accordance with Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)** In content area** and Arizona Department of Education laws and regulations.
  • At least (1) one year of student teaching and/or approved internship.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Arizona State Academic Standards.
Special Requirements

Driving Requirement: This job description does not require the incumbent to drive; however, any employee who chooses or is asked to drive an SRPMIC vehicle for work related community business must receive written annual authorization to do so. For clarification, work related community business includes driving to and from SRPMIC government sites and buildings.

Terms of Employment: This position is treated as a full-time exempt position scheduled for 40 hours per week.
