Summary of Job Duties

This posting will fill one of two work locations: The Aurora Reservoir & OSNR Sites/Facilities

Hourly Pay: $15.45
Estimated average hours per week: 24-40 various shifts
This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.
These positions do not provide medical benefits
Typical shifts at OSNR Sites/Facilities are Mon-Fri
Typical shifts at the Aurora Reservoir are 4 10-hour shifts (Sun - Wed or Wed - Sat)
Season Starts on April 5, 2021, and extends till September 24, 2021

The City of Aurora is looking for someone who is able to provide seasonal site and facility maintenance, natural resource management and protection, building and grounds coordination, and programming support services at the Aurora Reservoir. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide outstanding stewardship of Aurora's natural resources by performing a variety of tasks related to maintaining open space, natural areas, reservoirs, trails, streetscapes, undeveloped and specialty sites.

  • Encouraging active lifestyles and creating healthy environments for people, nature and community.
  • Perform tasks related to restoration, conservation, safety and cleanliness of open space, natural areas, reservoirs, trails, streetscapes, undeveloped and specialty sites including litter control, cleaning facilities, janitorial duties, mowing, handling & applying pesticides, daily equipment maintenance, snow removal, trail construction & maintenance and fence construction & maintenance.
  • Perform various tasks related to special event support.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum age: 18 years old due to City insurance requirements.

Education/Experience: Equivalent training and experience that will demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge: Knowledge of basic manual work techniques.

Skills: Skill in operating hand tools, power tools, riding mowers, tractors, and equipment is desirable.

Abilities: Ability to follow instructions and maintain a safe working environment.

Licenses or Certificates Required: Current and valid driver's license with a good driving history.

This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands: Moderate to heavy physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 80 pounds; frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds; may lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; regular walking and standing; regular climbing, bending, kneeling and crouching; hand/foot/eye coordination to perform appropriate duties; vision to read instructions; hearing and speech communication for communication with employees and citizens.

Work Environment: Works outdoors in varying weather conditions with exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, water, sun, blowing sand, snow, ice and other conditions found in an outdoor environment. Handle a variety of chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, seeds, and concrete & building materials common to open space and natural resource maintenance and construction.

Essential Personnel: When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel

Equipment Used: May operate trucks, mowers, line trimmers, weed sprayers, tractors, utility vehicles and hand tools & power tools related to maintenance operations.
