Staff Veterinarian

The Arizona Humane Society is a nationally recognized animal welfare organization providing advanced medical and behavioral care through our Emergency Animal Medical Technician team and our Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital. In addition, we operate a Kitten Intensive Care Unit (nursery), Parvo Puppy ICU, a full service public veterinary hospital and a spay/neuter/vaccine clinic. Overview

Our veterinary team provides a wide range of services from preventive healthcare and spay/neuter services to advanced trauma procedures for public, community and shelter animals. In addition, we support local law enforcement agencies in cases involving animal cruelty. We operate from two large campuses and additional offsite and mobile locations. Our medical staff work closely as a team managing a diverse and exciting case load.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Medical Doctor Degree and license to practice in Arizona or ability to obtain an AZ license.
  • Solid medical and surgical skills with a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Desire to provide exceptional care and customer service.
  • Strong interest in shelter and community medicine.
  • Orthopedic skills highly desirable but not required

Language Skills: Able to speak, read and write English; Spanish language helpful.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical skills.

Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary. Proficiency with or able to learn/use Chameleon software (for use with animals in a shelter environment).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Driver's License.

Other Skills, Abilities and Qualifications: Regular attendance is required. Access to reliable transportation.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Work Environment: There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air conditioned and heated office environment.
