Primary Function

The Senior Counsel provides legal support for NewRez residential mortgage lending function. The candidate shall be responsible for identifying and analyzing legal issues, drafting key documents, presenting clear recommendations, assuring legal compliance, and overseeing legal department personnel.

Principal Duties

  • Provides legal support to multiple business units

  • Researches and advises on variety of legal issues and communicates recommendations to business units

  • Reviews and drafts contracts and leases

  • Supports corporate governance functions

  • Oversees and maintains multiple compliance projects

  • Provides advice on company policies and procedures

  • Participates in litigation and regulatory matters

  • Tracks regulatory changes affecting the business units

  • Handles employment law issues

  • Investigates and responds to customer complaints

  • Assists with third party due diligence

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years experience as attorney in law firm and/or corporate setting

  • JD from an accredited law school

  • Admitted to the Bar in any State

  • Experience representing mortgage lenders, banks and/or consumer finance companies required

  • Management experience preferred

  • Litigation experience preferred

  • Willingness and ability to handle multiple assignments in a high volume environment

  • Ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly and concisely

  • Possesses excellent oral, written, and organizational skills
