DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Senior Fire Inspector performs inspections of all proposed buildings, occupancies, and events and reviews
plans and approval and permit compliance with the Gila River Indian Community Title 21 Fire and Public Safety
Ordinance, and other required codes and standards of the Gila River Indian Community. This position
investigates all fires occurring throughout the Gila River Indian Community to determine the fire cause. The
Senior Fire Inspector handles all hazardous materials incidents and investigates the cause and determines
monetary liability for each incident. The Senior Fire Inspector inspects all occupancies operating within the
boundaries of the Gila River Indian Community for compliance with the Fire and Public Safety Ordinance

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Conduct inspections of events and activities for adherence to codes and standards, issue permits and
certificates of compliance.Conduct plan reviews for construction, special systems, fire sprinklers, fire alarms, fuel systems and tanks,
commercial kitchen fire suppression, and life safety event plans.Investigate origin and cause for fires and hazmat incidents. Provides case management and meetings with
other agencies (Gila River Police Department, Law Office, etc.) as needed.Responsible for the testing and inspection of fixed fire protection systems, fuel storage and hazardous
dispensing operations, underground fire lines, emergency access and special fire protection systems.
Conducts construction site inspections which includes meeting on site with developers, builders, architects,
boards and commissions regarding appropriate application of codes and standards.Manage and supervise Firefighters and other Inspectors during critical functions, including investigations.
Develop and maintain appropriate schedule of fees for inspections, special permits and departmental services.
Research the application and Viability of existing and adopted codes for modification and interpretations;
submission of comments and changes to the ICC, NFPA and modify Community Codes.Research existing code reference materials for correct interpretation and application of life safety systems and
features; write dissertations and interpretations of findings and report to/address governing bodies, contractors
and department directors.Evaluate, research, plan and request for appropriate code interpretation for implementation and enforcement
(often associated with new construction projects and involves the negative input of other affected
departments).Investigate explosions and fires for cause and origin, investigate non-criminal deaths at events;Conduct random and requested inspections of facilities and activities within the Community.Conduct hazardous materials occupancies inspections.Assist with large complicated structures or events that require code enforcement and education.Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE. SKILL AND ABILITY:Knowledge of principles and methods of fire prevention and fire inspection.Knowledge of fire, building, and related codes and their interpretation and intent.Knowledge of laws and legal procedures pertaining to arson investigations, including elements and
requirements of a legal report.Knowledge of field inspection methods and techniques; investigative techniques; and principles for
determining fire causes and their origins.Knowledge of fire detection and extinguishing systems.Knowledge of Hazardous materials, proper storage, use, application and response to fire.Knowledge of fire chemistry, fire behavior and fire ground operations.Knowledge of fire protection engineering relating to hydraulics as applied to sprinkler systems, fire
prevention, and fire detection systems.Ability to analyze, interpret, and explain technical fire and building codes, ordinances, plans and specifications
as they apply to specific situations.Ability to prepare fire investigative evidence and documentation for legal proceedings.Ability to effectively plan, supervise and coordinate work of others.Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Ability to analyze computerized data and operate computerized data entry and retrieval systems.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials
and the general public.Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a drug-free workplace.REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Fire Science, Fire Prevention, Fire Investigation,
Fire Technology or a closely related field and four (4) years of experience as a firefighter, fire investigator,
fire inspector, plans reviewer, or hazardous materials technician conducting fire prevention/investigations and
which includes one (1) year lead experience; OrHigh School diploma or GED and seven (7) year of experience as a firefighter, fire investigator, fire inspector,
plan reviewer, or hazardous materials technician conducting fire prevention/investigations and which includes
two (2) years of lead experience.ADDITIONAL RE! QUIREMENTS:Currently hold and maintain one of the following:

- Fire Inspector I & II certification from the International Code Council (ICC); Or

- Inspector I certification with Plan Review Certification from the International Code Council (ICC); Or

- Higher level certification such as National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies
(NICET) Level I, II, or III.NFPA Fire Inspector qualification standards is preferredFuel Tank Inspector certification must be obtained within 24 months from the date of hire.Required to pass a background check and fingerprint clearance as a condition of employment and mustcontinue to maintain throughout duration of employment.
0 Maintain current CPR Certification at the Healthcare Provider level or equivalent or ability to obtain Within
thirty (30) days of employment.
0 Certified Firefighter I & II (AZ, IFSAC or Pro-Board) or provide proof of successful completion of a program
meeting National Fire Protections Association (NFPA) 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional
Qualifications is preferred.
0 State of Arizona Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or National Registry EMT certification is preferred.
0 Certified Fire and Explosives Investigator from an accredited agency: NAFI or IAAI is preferred.
0 Required to obtain a Tribal Driving permit. Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving record
for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must
be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of
