CLASS SUMMARY: Under general direction, incumbent oversees the physical and logical network infrastructure including but not limited to data, voice and video systems; as well as server hardware and enterprise class software systems. Primary responsibilities include installing and maintaining network and security systems hardware, provisioning network and server systems to meet district demands, and evaluating effectiveness of operations. Tasks listed are representative of the level of work and are not intended to represent all tasks assigned to the position. Incumbent will travel to the various district sites which requires a valid and current Arizona Drivers license as well as a clean driving record.

Monitors and maintains simple to complex Local/Wide Area Network switching and routing configurations using various network tools to identify/rectify issues or recommend proactive changes.

Monitors and maintains data backup and recovery systems configured using local and offsite data storage for quick recovery as well as tapes for long term offline record keeping.

Installs, configures, and maintains network hardware including switches, routers, load balancers, wireless access points and controllers; as well as security devices such as security gateways, IPS devices, VPN systems, and firewalls.

4.

Monitor and maintains enterprise data and network security by maintaining current antivirus, web filtering, Intrusion Prevention, and firewall policy, responding to events as appropriate.

Performs installation and maintenance of cabling infrastructure, coordinating repairs and installs with outside vendors as necessary.

6.

Serves as technical expert in recommending hardware and software components for networks such as switches, routers, firewalls, network appliances, etc. to Sr. leadership.

Maintains technical documentation on network installations and configurations.

Installs, configures and maintains server hardware and operating systems within a primarily virtual Windows environment hosted using VMWare.

9.

Installs, configures and maintains of all aspects of a converged VoIP telephony system including server based call managers, voicemail systems, and 911 services. Performs Moves, Adds, and Changes to VoIP and analog telephony devices as needed.

Troubleshooting and maintains district ip video distribution, and ip intercom/bell systems, coordinating repairs with outside vendors as necessary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. In addition, verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired;
  • Valid Arizona Department of Transportation Drivers License;
  • Two years experience administering a Cisco Local and Wide area networking environment;
  • Two years of experience with border network security devices such as Email filters and Firewalls;
  • One year of Cisco VoIP telephony administration;
  • Two years of Windows Server and Active Directory administration experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, information systems, or related field;
  • Four years experience administering a Cisco Local and Wide area networking environment;
  • Three years of experience with border network security devices such as Email filters and Firewalls;
  • Network+, CCNA, CCNP Certification;
  • Three years of Cisco VoIP telephony administration ;
  • Four years of Windows Server and Active Directory administration.
  • Experience with VMWare and Veeam (or other backup and recovery platform)

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Skills required, but not limited to, for this position include:

  • Knowing Local Area Network technologies including but not limited to: Ethernet, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, WINS, NTP, SMTP, SNMP, 802.11x, SIP;
  • Understanding network attached printers and peripherals;
  • Understanding of Cisco NXOS and IOS;
  • Knowing Cisco VoIP Telephony including Cisco Call Manager, and Unity Voice Messaging systems;
  • Understanding server class hardware, automated tape libraries, Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, SMTP, and Internet content filtering devices;
  • Knowing Storage Area Network hardware and software including Fibre Channel technologies;
  • Knowing and utilizing operating systems in a primarily Windows Server environment;
  • Knowing and utilizing Enterprise Class applications to include Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL, VMWare, Veeam, Cylance, Cisco Umbrella, Solar Winds Network Performance Monitor and Network Configuration Manager;
  • Understanding of data center operations including physical security, cooling, UPS and electrical needs;
  • An understanding of Microsoft Active Directory;
  • Managing multiple tasks, some with competing deadlines;
  • Running network management systems to monitor network operations;
  • Troubleshooting network connectivity and routing problems;
  • Handling difficult and sensitive situations;
  • Writing technical documentation describing installation and troubleshooting techniques;
  • Engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
