JOB DESCRIPTION:

NORC at the University of Chicago is seeking a Senior Research Associate to join the Health Care Research Departments. The Health Care Research teams conducts work on a variety of health policy topics including patient safety, health information technology, access to health care and the uninsured, health care expenditures, the Medicare program, and public health and emergency preparedness.

DEPARTMENT: Health Care

NORCs expertise and ongoing work in health care delivery and financing - including access to insurance, payment and delivery-system reform, benefit design, and quality measurement - advance stakeholders understanding of policies and programs, facilitate implementation, and contribute to important improvements in cost and quality.

NORCs expert staff has extensive knowledge of all aspects of health care delivery, from private marketplaces and employer-sponsored insurance to Medicare and Medicaid; from large health care systems to small clinics; and from the needs of children to those of older adults, people with disabilities, and ethnic and racial minorities. Our expert team includes social scientists that acquire, collect, and analyze data from health care organizations and patients; evaluators; health services researchers; health-policy analysts; and professionals with first-hand experience running and supporting health care programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead key tasks in research design, data collection and analysis, while supporting the project manager with timely project management and production of deliverables
  • Develop instrumentation for quantitative or qualitative data collection
  • Plan and conduct a wide range of data collection activities
  • Analyze data
  • Draft reports and presentations
  • Play a key role in management, coordination, writing and budgeting for business development.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Bachelor's Degree; Masters' degree strongly preferred in Health Policy, Public Health, or other related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years' research experience which should include playing a lead role in managing and driving tasks, using and designing qualitative data collection tools including key informant interviews, site visits and focus groups.
  • Strong analytic ability, writing and organizational skills are required.
  • Quantitative analysis experience including working knowledge of SAS, SPSS (or other statistical data analysis packages) strongly preferred.
  • Experience and familiarity with Medicaid and/or Medicare programs and health care for vulnerable populations is a plus, especially state-level health programs preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Occasional travel for site visits and meetings may be required (once it is safe to do so.)
