This job classification description is intended to be generic in nature and not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities. The specific tasks/duties may vary based on position assignment and as determined by the Town of Queen Creek.

JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY

Positions assigned to this class are responsible for performing, leading, and overseeing skilled activities and operating heavy equipment related to installation, maintenance, and repair on a variety of Town utility equipment, structures, and apparatuses in support of the Town's water and wastewater systems.


DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS


This is a lead level utility wells classification in the utilities maintenance and operations job family that requires advanced technical knowledge and skill in the technical/functional aspects of utility wells. Work involves planning and coordinating work assignments and the modification of established guidelines and the initiation of new approaches.


Special Requirements:
This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position by Human Resources, per State and/or Federal Law. Upon conditional offer of employment, the candidate selected will be required to undergo testing for alcohol and controlled substances within twenty-four (24) hours of acceptance of the offer. Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Towns needs.

  • Leads staff; schedules staff and approves time off, provides communication from upper-level supervisor and management to work unit; directs, delegates and monitors workflow, equipment and materials; inspects work and develops staff for efficient operation; provides input into key personnel actions including performance evaluations, hiring, discipline, promotion, demotion.
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs a variety of hand and/or power tools, trucks, tractors, heavy equipment, pumps, compressors, weed whackers, saws and/or a variety of other light equipment.
  • Conducts site inspections; maintains written work records, including complaint resolution, maintenance and repair logs, flow records, daily work logs.
  • Performs routine water storage and production facility inspections.
  • monitors pumps, motors, valves, and controls at water storage and production facilities to include dead-head and other efficiency testing on a regular basis.
  • Monitors and operates SCADA system.
  • Troubleshoots pump, motor, electrical component failures; monitors, maintains, and adjusts chlorinators applying proper chemical dosages.
  • Maintains facilities to include weed control and other appearance factors.
  • Performs repair, maintenance, and replacement on various motors, valves, pumps, and controls.
  • Reads and records meters.
  • Conducts quality control and safety assurance.
  • Conducts water quality sampling and handling.
  • Maintains written work records, including complaint resolution, maintenance and repair logs, flow records, and daily work logs.
  • Maintains and controls inventory including tracking inventory used per work orders and new parts and materials received.
  • Participates in on-call program.
  • Participates in monthly meter locks and unlocks.
  • Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment; reports any concerns in a timely manner.
  • Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, logs, lists, credit card statements, invoices, time sheets, work orders, vehicle records, maps, blueprints, construction drawings, material safety data sheets, operational guides, policies, procedures, standards, regulations, manuals, reference materials.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (at job entry)

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED and 4 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Drivers License;
  • Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Grade II Water Distribution Operator Certification;
  • Commercial Drivers License with tanker endorsement;
  • Maintain all certifications/licenses required at job entry.
