Job Description

The Simulation Education Coordinator (SEC) supports the clinical learning experiences for pre- licensure nursing students. The position is responsible for collaborating with course faculty to determine the best mode of simulation to meet course objectives and program student learning outcomes for the nursing education program. The Simulation Education Coordinator coordinates and manages the daily operations, information technology and assets of the simulation lab, and facilitates faculty and staff training. This position develops and evaluates quality metrics by which to measure the effectiveness of education delivery within the simulation environment and across the simulation program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Functions as the simulation expert on scenario development and deployment assuring that scenarios are complete with objectives and goals clearly written.
  • Ensures the INACSL Standards of Best Practice in Simulation are incorporated into the simulation program.
  • Implements a variety of simulation modalities (live, virtual, virtual reality or computer-assisted) based on learning objectives and participant needs.
  • Develops, maintains, and utilizes tools to evaluate the outcomes of simulation education, to include faculty facilitation/debriefing.
  • Applies adult learning theories as well as cultural and generational considerations into education development.
  • Collaborates with didactic faculty to ensure that course objectives and teaching strategies are met.
  • Orients and educates clinical faculty in simulation theory and strategies.
  • Monitors and ensures faculty competence in lab and simulation theory and strategies.
  • Functions as the expert simulationist, consistently assisting content specialists with the development, implementation, facilitation, and evaluation of simulation curriculum, projects, and scenarios.
  • Plans and implements simulation education curriculum and assists with projects and scenarios using innovation and creativity.
  • Designs and implements evaluation plans for simulation curriculum, projects, and scenarios.
  • Serves as a resource to simulation operation specialists in the clinical and lab use of simulation equipment, as well as assisting in all aspects of moulage or the creation of a hospital or prehospital environment.
  • Provides oversight for maintenance of simulation equipment.
  • Contributes to budgeting for simulation delivery.
  • Participates on appropriate organizational committees to ensure simulation is used as necessary to address issues of education and patient safety.
  • Participates on pivotal committees to assure simulation is a part of implementation and ongoing activities within the institution.
  • Actively participates in professional organizations related to healthcare simulation.
  • Facilitates effective student learning in the appropriate clinical/lab setting and via the online learning environment.
  • Provides adequate guidance for students in the clinical/lab setting related to professionalism, practice, and research.
  • Ensures effective evaluations of student performance.
  • Facilitates effective student learning in the appropriate clinical/lab setting and via the online learning environment.
  • Designs and implements student orientation to clinical lab/simulation setting.
  • Develops and supervises simulation operations teamwork schedule according to the semester simulation and clinical schedule.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with colleagues, staff, students, agency personnel, and others as necessary in providing public service.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3 years of healthcare simulation experience, required
  • 3+ years clinical patient care experience, required
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical or lab teaching experience in an academic setting.

EDUCATION:

  • Masters Degree in Nursing required
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) required
  • Unencumbered RN Oregon license
