    CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION
    The Behavior Specialist is responsible for developing a plan and support for behavioral management in collaboration with school staff.
    The Behavioral Specialist will identify and meet with high risk students to determine intervention plans based on their needs and continue to monitoring such as intensive academic intervention, goal setting, grades review, student reports and discipline referrals. The Behavioral Specialist will provide support for teachers in implementing instructional strategies and routines to create a positive classroom environment that increases student success. The Behavioral Specialist will coordinate the development and implementation of appropriate behavior management techniques based on individual student behavior intervention plans. In addition to this, the Behavioral Specialist provides technical assistance and staff development to administrators , teachers, and support staff regarding effective interventions and positive behavioral support and techniques. The Behavioral Specialist also will handle discipline incidents with the support of administrators. The Behavioral Specialist consults with transportation staff regarding the use of behavioral management programs on buses. The Behavioral Specialist will conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and will develop the Behavior Intervention Plan. The Behavioral Specialist will provide in service training for teachers and support staff on how to handle students, classroom management, Crisis Prevention Intervention, Behavior management and intervention techniques etc.

    Position will be responsible for some or all of the listed duties and/or additional duties that occur from time to time.

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Instructional coaching or special education crisis
    • Prevention Intervention training Classroom Management
    • Experience working with handicapped children

    LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    • Must be able to pass FBI and State background check
    • Defensive Driver Training Program to be completed by all agency personnel that drive on State business
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in Education
    • State of Arizona Department of Education Teaching Certificate
    • AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

    KNOWLEDGE OF:

    DEMONSTRATED SKILL/ABILITY TO:
    • Apply knowledge and skills in areas such as mentoring, classroom management, alignment of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and peer coaching
    • Manage behavior problems
    • Communicate effectively; both orally and in writing
    • Ability to develop and communicate detailed behavior management plans with rationale for implementation based on a functional behavior assessment.
    • Ability to speak effectively before all members of the school community
