Major/Essential Functions
- The Special Collections Librarian, Unit Manager, is responsible for the care, development and leadership of the Health Sciences Library's collections of rare books and artifacts, and engagement with historical research and programming.
- Participates in planning, policy formation, and decision-making relating to library services, collections, and technologies.
- Position encourages teaching, scholarship and service that contributes to the effectiveness of the Library, the University, and the knowledge base of the profession.
- Provides reference services as assigned by the Public Services supervisor in furtherance of the Health Sciences Library's mission and the institutions commitment to its Values-based culture.
- Adheres to the institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications
- Masters of Library Science or its equivalent from an ALA-accredited school.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an academic or health sciences special collections program or equivalent experience.
- Undergraduate subject credentials in the biological or health sciences.
- Specialization in special collections librarianship.
- Knowledge of special collections, practices and trends including paper and digital preservation, storage, organization, description, and access to these materials.
- Demonstrated database searching skills.
- Ability to identify and pursue strategic opportunities, and experience engaging stakeholders around a shared purpose.
- Ability to translate strategic and theoretical concepts into practice.
- Familiarity with online reference tools, emerging technologies and social media.
- Demonstrated experience delivering instruction online and face-to-face.
- Familiarity with the history of health care.
- Work closely with special collections cataloging.
- Participate in library orientations and tours, group training sessions, and assists in library outreach services.
- Provide in-person and online reference assistance including mediated searches and LibChats
- Assist with the production of print and online library tutorials.
- Trained and/or experience in searching health and biomedical sciences related databases/websites.
- Understanding of the scientific research process.
- Experience using reference management software.
- Experience teaching evidence-based concepts.
- Familiarity with content management systems such as Sakai.
- Experience with website development and maintenance.
- Familiarity with systematic reviews.
- Familiarity with LibGuides platform.
