Primary Purpose:
Assess the educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred to special education
services. Work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate instructional
programs for students with disabilities.

Education/Certification:
Met state certification requirements
Appropriate training and experience in areas of exceptionality, in individual assessment of intelligence,
educational and emotional factors, in learning theory, in child development , in methods of instructions
as related to developmental processes, and with instructional materials.
Such training, teaching and experience as Director of Special Education shall determine to be necessary
to qualify for the position.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Assessment and Evaluation
1. Case History Collection and integration - Selects case history or other interview format with
consideration for all relevant factors. Efficiently collects and spontaneously probes for additional
relevant information from additional sources. Integrates data in order to identify etiologic and/or
contributing factors.
2. Evaluation procedures - Selects comprehensive assessment battery with consideration for relevant
factors. Accurately administers the assessment battery. Scores tests accurately. Collaborates with
other professionals when necessary.
3. Adaptation of interviewing and testing procedures to meet individual students needs-Recognizes
when testing procedures need to be adapted to accommodate needs unique to specific students.
Implements appropriate adaptations and makes maximum use of available resources to provide for
unusual situations.
4. Interpretation and integration of assessment data-Accurately interprets and integrates test results
and behavioral observations to define the student's level of functioning. Develops diagnostic
impressions and makes comprehensive recommendations leading to appropriate case management.
Completes comprehensive individual assessment and eligibility documentation in a times manner.5. Consult with LSSP for psychological evaluations/reevaluations for students with or suspected
emotional/behavioral difficulties.
6. Consult and coordinate with LSSP for Functional Behavior Assessments when requested by the ARD
committee.
7. Utilizes all assessment data to develop IEP appropriate for the student. Identify the appropriate setting
for services. Monitors implementation of the EIP for effectiveness.
8. Assist with development and implementation of behavior plans for students, when appropriate.
9. Participate in and/or facilitate the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with
interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and development of Individual Education
Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.
Program Management and Communication
10. Schedules and/or coordinates ARD meetings in a timely manner as required.
11. Conduct and/or participate in ARD meetings with expertise and sensitivity to cultural and sociological
factors.
12. Reports confidential information accurately and refers students for additional services as appropriate.
13. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local
board policy. Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
14. Presents information accurately and concisely. Has appropriate oral and written skills.
15. Considers the communication needs of the student and family.
16. Provide consultation service to campus personnel concerning emotional/behavioral needs of students.
17. Professional Growth and Development - updates knowledge and skills through professional growth
and development opportunities. Recognizes needs of job and seeks ways to improve efficiency and
productivity. Conducts self in ethical and professional manner.
18. Exhibits a cooperative attitude towards co-workers, students and parents.
19. Works effectively with others, reports to work on time, reliable and exhibits good judgment in decision
making and problem solving.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twistingMotion: Frequent walking
Lifting: May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical
disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist nonambulatory students, and lift and move
adaptive equipment; may work prolonged or irregular hours
Environment: Exposure to biological hazards; may require districtwide travel
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
