Position Summary

The College of Nursing at the UNM Health Sciences Center is a complex organization with a multitude of programs and initiatives across all levels. The Sr. Academic Advisor will work with a highly energetic and student-oriented advisement team, you will be providing academic advisement to prospective, current, former, undergraduate, and graduate students within the College of Nursing. This is a fast-paced environment where employees strive to give excellent professional consultation/advice within demanding time constraints for multiple programs.

You will be advising and assisting students in the admissions process, development of academic plans and class schedules; evaluating documents for entry and exit from the College of Nursing; partnering with the student to implement tools and success strategies as they navigate the university system.

This position requires you to understand student success resources on campus as well as departmental requirements and objectives concerning degree goals. This includes assessing admission requirements, managing admission processes, academic levels, attending to student academic inquiries, assisting in the resolution of individual academic problems, advising on academic program changes, and guiding students to prepare for graduation.

The successful candidate will possess strong advising, interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and customer-service skills. This candidate must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and working with a diverse student, staff, and faculty population.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in/with: (this should be evidenced on your resume)

  • Interpreting and analyzing department, college, and university degree requirements
  • Multitasking with ever changing priority demands
  • Recent experience working in a post-secondary institution
  • Working in a health professions program

Proficiency in programs related to advisory duties: Banner, Lobo Achieve, Access, Excel, Word, etc.

Knowledge of outreach, recruitment, orientation, and retention program implementation.
