Position Summary

The Contract & Grant Accounting Department is part of the Financial Services Division (FSD) and also works very closely with the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR). Our department interprets and implements UNM policies related to contracts and grants as well as reviews and interprets policies of outside private and governmental funding agencies. The department also maintains various databases and generates regular fiscal reports on sponsored programs, oversees revenue collection and management through automated invoices and timely follow-up, confirms proper payment application, and ensures that expenditures adhere to private and governmental regulations and guidelines.

The successful candidate will perform standard accounting functions within our billing and cash teams, including billing functions for our fiscal monitors, posting and processing check and wire payments received from external sponsors, approving travel expense reimbursements and third-party direct-pay invoices, preparation of award closeout reconciliations, processing of refunds back to sponsors, and electronic drawdown of sponsored funds. Other responsibilities include pulling financial supporting documentation for invoices and audit requests and other various duties throughout the department.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with Banner and MyReports.

Familiarity with Chrome River

Basic Knowledge of Sponsored Projects

Knowledge of university policies and procedures related to procurement, PCard, and travel.

Familiarity with billing functions, deposits, and application of payments.

Ability to work under pressure and prioritize work assignments.

Experience working in a core financial division for a large University.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
