Position Summary

The Department of English Language and Literature is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, energetic professional who will serve as our Sr Fiscal Services Tech. The person who fills this role will provide fiscal support to one of the larger departments in the College of Arts and Sciences. The English Department employs 6 staff members and an instructional staff of more than 120 individuals, including graduate student TAs, part-time instructors, and tenure-track faculty. In any given semester, the department offers more than 250 courses to approximately 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The Department is the home of diverse academic programs in the study of all types of literature in English, Creative Writing, Rhetoric and Writing, Professional Writing and Technical Communication, and Medieval Studies.

The overall mission of the English Department is to engage in writing, research, teaching and public service that advance the understanding of the field of English through the various academic subareas in the department. The Sr Fiscal Services Tech will work collaboratively with the Department Chair, other staff members, and faculty members to coordinate the development, implementation, and execution of a defined set of sub-programs, special projects, and other initiatives designed to achieve the overall mission of the department.

Duties and responsibilities for the Sr Fiscal Services Tech will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage the administration of the overall departmental budget, using standard accounting practices and following UNM policies and procedures.
  • Assist faculty with research-related domestic and international travel expense reimbursement.
  • Initiate and process purchase orders and invoices and reconcile purchasing.
  • Award disbursement, including student scholarships and teaching awards and faculty research awards.
  • Oversee inventory record maintenance.
  • Responds to requests and concerns from internal and external constituencies regarding fiscal transactions; analyzes and provides reports and correspondence on unresolved problems.
  • Maintains confidentiality of appropriate records, contracts, documents, and data in compliance with Federal, State, and University regulations and policies.
  • Serve as liaison between the department and UNM accounting offices and personnel.
  • Maintains confidentiality of departmental fiscal records in compliance with Federal, State, and University regulations and policies.
  • Provide assistance to the Chair on all fiscal matters of the department.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with the wide range of constituencies that make up the diverse intellectual community of our department is essential.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or higher.
  • Familiarity with UNM accounting policies, processes, and programs and including procurement, travel policy, P-card, LoboWeb/Banner, LoboMart, and Chrome River.
  • Ability to gather data, compile and analyze information and produce reports.
  • Excellent record-keeping, organization, and critical thinking practices.
  • Extensive customer service-based interpersonal skills and communication effectiveness.
  • Experience working in an academic unit.
