Position Description
Employees in this classification are experienced LVN's responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in an assigned specialty or subspecialty outpatient clinic. Work is performed under the direction of a staff nurse, and/or nurse practitioner/physician assistant, and/or physician as part of a total health care team in providing complete evaluations to patients. Works under the direct supervision of staff nurse/clinic director and/or physician. May instruct co-workers and supervise them in the performance of special procedures. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions, necessitating a high degree of contact with patients, families and clinic personnel.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Directly supervises clinic floor and manages Clinical Assistants coverage at all times. Responsible to guide and support Clinical Assistants to maintain JCAHO compliance standards at all times Responsible to implement and ensure all nursing processes and workflows (pre-visit planning MA role) are completed
  • Responsible to manage nursing floor coverage and approve all Clinical Assistants time off requests
  • Administers medication as ordered by the provider and monitors patient for adverse reactions
  • Takes patient vital signs
  • Responsible for incoming calls and/or in person triages. Delegates as required
  • Instructs patient and family regarding treatment to be continued at home and/or pre-op surgery instructions
  • Responsible to monitor Walk-Ins and Nurse Visits; Ensures processes and protocols are followed and implemented in a timely and efficient manner

Occasional Duties
  • Responsible for desktop coverage when CMA's are on leave to include communicating with healthcare providers, ancillary services, and hospitals on patient concerns. Arranging hospital and surgery services for patients, and making insurance referrals and obtaining medication prior authorizations
  • Participates as member of QI Committee, Nursing Committee, and Sterilization Committee and attends meetings. Institutes policies and procedures as mandated by each committee. Works closely with Clinical Medical Director
  • Maintains medication reconciliation records and emergency kits

Performs other tasks and duties assigned by the Clinical Medical Director within the policies of the department and TTUHSC in order to meet the goals and objectives of the Department.

Required Qualifications
  • Completion of a Board of Nursing accredited program of vocational nursing
  • Current Vocational Nursing license in the state of Texas or the attainment of a temporary permit from the Board of Nursing to practice vocational nursing pending full licensure in the state of Texas\\
  • At least two years of LVN experience in a hospital, clinic or community-based environment
