The Payroll Sr. Coordinator is a key position in the HR Department. This position is responsible for all payroll tax activities, including compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and filing local, state, and federal payroll tax returns. May supervise one or more subordinates in the calculation and reporting of tax liabilities, in responding to questions and special requests from employees and regulatory agencies, in researching laws and regulations regarding taxes and payroll withholding procedures, and in preparing budgets, projections, and special reports for senior management.
Primary Responsibilities
Maintains and processes payroll covering multi-states for assigned area including: processing, reviewing, analyzing, reconciling, auditing, and delivering deliverables in a timely and accurate fashion
Prepare and deliver on-demand checks and pay-cards for terminations and as required
Prepare and maintain payroll files in compliance with SOX guideline.
Maintains all payroll functions in an accurate and secure manner
Responsible for auditing tax returns and filings
Provides payroll support to employees, District Managers, and Operations VPs
Develops valuable business partnerships with outsource payroll company
Communicates with outsource payroll company on related payroll issues pertaining to Extra Space Management, Inc
As changes occur to payroll policies, holds first line responsibility for providing updates to direct report regarding appropriate revisions to existing company policies pertaining to payroll
Advises Human Resource leadership on payroll issues, policy and procedures
Strives to continue education and training on outsource payroll system and functions to enhance ability to provide advanced means of meeting the company's payroll and human resource needs.
Provides suggested updates and revisions to enhance the collection of data for all new hire paperwork forms.
Collects and processes various forms and records pertaining to sales or piecework, taxes, insurances withheld, employee identification numbers and information, etc., for payroll purposes.
Prepares periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions.
Responds to payroll information required on unemployment claims in a timely manner.
Communicate and provide pertinent information to accounting department.
Constantly strives to remain updated on various State laws that affect payroll and human resources and is responsible for communicating these updates to the HR team via email, Payroll Team meetings, etc.
Provides professional customer service to internal and external customers
Ability to create professional communications, reports, mail and merges utilizing Microsoft Word.
Ability to create reports, projections, charts, pivot tables and graphs in Excel
CPP certification preferred
Experience preferred working with Workday payroll attendance systems
High School diploma or GED
Bachelor's Degree in a related financial field preferred
