Job Title: Sr Specialist, Regulatory Affairs

Location: Washington, DC

Work Hours: Full-time (based on a 37.5 hour work week)

Grade: 7

Reports To: Senior Associate Director, Regulatory Affairs

Position Summary:

The Senior Specialist, Regulatory Affairs, is responsible for providing support on federal regulatory affairs to the Department of Federal Affairs, as assigned by the Senior Associate Director, Regulatory Affairs. Those assignments include: (1) monitor and analyze federal regulations; (2) draft comment letters; (3) support regulatory policy development efforts; (4) represent the Association at relevant meetings; (5) assist in the development of communication materials; and (6) work on programs, projects, and briefings sponsored by the Department.

We seek an individual with knowledge of the executive branch of the federal government, and particularly those agencies under the Department of Health and Human Services. It is necessary that the candidate has experience in health and/or aging policy, and it is preferred that the individual has experience interacting with federal agencies on those topics.

The successful candidate must be a strong team player and enjoy working in a collegial yet highly demanding and effective culture. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate excellent writing and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as in a team, exercise sound judgment, execute strategy, and operate with confidentiality. We seek an individual with an appreciation for the complexities of working within a large voluntary health organization. In addition, the preferred candidate will have a strong mission orientation and a passion for advocacy on behalf of the Alzheimer's Association and the people it represents.

Responsibilities

Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor the Federal Register, review and analyze regulations from federal agencies, draft written Association responses.
  • Provide support to Sr. Assoc. Director, Regulatory Affairs, in regulatory policy efforts (e.g., work groups, research).Represent the Association in relevant federal coalitions and the department in internal Association meetings.
  • Assist in preparation of presentations and other communications materials.
  • Working on projects as assigned by the Vice President, Federal Affairs and Sr. Assoc. Director, Regulatory Affairs, including:
  • Research projects on federal regulatory policy;
  • Assist in the planning of, preparation for, and implementation of programs and briefings related to federal agencies and other events; and
  • Undertake other projects as assigned and as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum three to four years federal regulatory experience


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and strong organizational skills
  • Strong knowledge of structure and function of federal executive branch
  • Expertise in health policy
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for the job
