Position Summary

The UNM-Valencia campus is acceptingapplications for the position of Sr. Tutor.

This is a grant-funded position that ends08/31/2021 and will be renewed annually based on availability of federalfunding. The position is 32 hours per week. The Sr. Tutor is responsible for:

  • Providingindividual and/or group tutoring sessions.
  • Datacollection and activities reporting on tutoring.
  • Coordinating(CRLA) training and certification of Peer mentor/tutors andtracking Peer mentoring/tutoring appointments.

Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerquein rural Valencia county, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-yearbranch campus of the University of New Mexico which functions as a communitycollege in the region and is designated a Hispanic Serving Institution. With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers academictransfer programs, technical vocational programs, Adult Basic Education, andDual Credit High School/College courses to Valencia and Socorro Counties. The faculty and staff serve a student body of over 2,000 credit students persemester.

  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the USUNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

Successful completion of at least 60 college-level credit hours; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Education or a STEM-H related discipline
  • Three years of experience in resolving complex/sensitive issues related to student retention and success, including providing holistic academic, financial aid, and scholarship advisement
  • Completion of introductory college Math, English, and Science courses or their equivalent with a B or higher, including but not limited to:
    * CompositionII
    * College Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus
    * Calculus I& II
    * Intro toStatistics
    * GeneralChemistry I & II
    * Calculus-Based Physics I & II Algebra
  • Experience tutoring students individually or in scheduled group study sessions
  • Experience working with and/or understanding the needs of first generation, disadvantaged students
  • CRLA or other nationally recognized tutor training to a "Master Tutor" level
  • Experience as a SSSP staff or student
