OBJECTIVE AND POSITION SUMMARY

Chicanos Por La Causas legal/compliance department advises CPLC and its affiliates on all legal, compliance, insurance, safety, records management, internal audit, employment law matters, and training and risk management functions for CPLC. The Staff Attorney role is cross-functional within the legal/compliance department. The Staff Attorney is expected to work in teams organized around centers of excellence that would include members from various parts of the organization and various departments, with a focus and priority on legal, compliance and risk management functions and teams.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Review and advise on contracts and other transactional documents.

2. Draft and negotiate contractual documents such as Independent Contractor Agreements, Memorandums of Understandings, Leases, etc.

3. Research applicable laws, policies and regulations to protect CPLC.

4. Ability to advise Associate Counsel on the risks associated with transaction.

5. Assist in maintaining best practices for in-house legal/compliance operations, including administrative functions as needed.

6. Assist in ensuring compliance with nonprofit guidelines, laws, regulations, and best practices.

7. Assist to ensure that CPLC maintains all necessary licenses and registrations.

8. Perform other tasks as they become necessary or are assigned.

9. Provide excelled service to all end users both internally and externally.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree.

State Bar of Arizona License in good standing.

Strong competency in one or more of the following areas of law: corporate governance, commercial real estate, finance, contracts or health care regulation.

Minimum 3-year professional legal experience in a firm or in-house environment.

Ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of contacts, including outside attorneys, senior management, and business associates.

Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally.

Ability to translate legal complexities into terms readily understood by all personnel levels of the organization.

Advises management to balance business needs and organizational risks.

Strong client management and project management skills across multiple functions in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work successfully both independently and within a matrixed team.

Prior experience with non-profits preferred.
