The Strategic Sourcing Manager reports directly to the VP, Head of Strategic Sourcing. S/He will develop and implement the strategic sourcing requirements best aligned to the goals of Webster Bank and the Procurement Department. The position will be responsible to: provide end-to-end sourcing services across various internal client groups and categories of goods and services, develop and deliver clear project and category plans with regards to driving cost savings, improving processes, and reducing risk as it relates to the Procurement-related activities within Webster. The role will involve building financial cases for supplier comparison and combining comparative data in support of the negotiation process, as well as conducting supplier research, industry analysis, and best practices. The position requires an expert negotiator with a proactive attitude providing excellent facilitation and customer service to line of business clients and the external community, and serve as a liaison and mentor to the more junior staff.

The primary objectives for the Strategic Sourcing Manager are to:

1. Guide internal clients through the strategic sourcing process for new and current suppliers and categories

2. Develop category strategies for Indirect Services

3. Develop and track sourcing metrics

4. Provide governance to the sourcing process and act as a conduit for escalations and problem resolution through the process

5. Apply the sourcing process to achieve cost containment, savings and/or avoidance

6. Provide guidance, assistance, and training to non-Sourcing staff

7. Help facilitate the development and utilization of supplier management and eProcurement processes

Education, Experience, Skills

  • Undergraduate degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Technical, Finance and/or Business required.
  • MBA or graduate degree in related field preferred
  • 5-8 years of related experience in Procurement, Strategic Sourcing of Indirect Services, including, but not limited to, IT software and hardware, professional services, telecom, consulting and temp labor.
  • Demonstrated ability negotiate in complex contract negotiations
  • Expert knowledge in the theory and application of end to end Sourcing processes and methodologies
  • Expert knowledge in supply chain and related applications
  • Expert negotiator
  • Proficient knowledge in the realm of data analysis and analytics
  • Expert in Excel
  • Working knowledge of supplier relationship management processes and methodologies
