Student Engagement - Clubs Manager

Job Description

Summary: Develops and executes a variety of engagement activities and events designed to enhance students' knowledge, understanding, and skills essential for personal development, civic and community engagement, academic success and leadership development. Acts as an advisor to a diverse group of student leaders, volunteers, etc., building a positive culture organized around supporting student campus life experience and academic success.

Core Functions:

  • Plans and manages the overall designated assigned campus program (activities, events, interest groups) related to one or more of university sponsored campus life, such as student clubs, student governance, communities of interests, whereby students gain life and leadership skills.
  • Advises student leaders in coordination and planning of GCU sponsored events and/or activities and developing leadership development opportunities campus wide.
  • Serves as liaison for Student Engagement to assist with communication and implementation of Welcome Week and registration for programs.
  • Collaborates in the planning and organizing of the annual Student Leadership Retreat.
  • Provides input for the annual budgeting process for Student Engagement events and actively, manages the budget and monitors expenses.
  • Responsible for ensuring content on the social media website is up-to-date, accurate and interesting.

Specific Area Functions:

Clubs Programs:

  • Identifies outreach methods for engaging students in forming interest clubs
  • Leads the clubs team of student leaders who serve on the Associated Students of Grand Canyon University.
  • Assists Club Advisors and leadership in developing new Clubs and Organizations, researches and analyzes student needs to determine program direction and goals.
  • Develops Club policies and procedures.
  • Acts as participating Board Member of GCU Clubs.
  • Acts as a liaison between commuter students, student engagement and student support services.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position supervises or manages the following positions, coordinators, and student workers.

  • Responsibilities of supervision include providing direction of work, coaching, counseling, advising staff, appraising performance, establishing & communicating performance measurements, indicators and results, and making employment decisions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated leadership capacity.
  • Knowledge of budget planning/management.
  • Ability to coach, counsel, advise and mentor staff effectively.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of groups and individuals including students, senior management, managers and employees and external contacts.
  • Ability to work independently as needed but has good interpersonal skills, relationship and team/consensus building skills.
  • Exercises discretion and sound judgment in decision making.
  • Represents the University in a professional manner.
  • Must have basic computer skills and experience with Office software packages.
  • Committed to high quality service to students.
  • Willing to support and subscribe to GCUs guiding principles.
  • Must be able to be in attendance for all designated GCU student life events which may involve evenings, weekends or limited weekend travel for annual retreat.

Education and/or Experience: (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelors degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Business or a related degree is required.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a similar management role, including leading and management people.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and clean driving record.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends for student life campus events and activities.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree.
  • Prefer experience in a similar position within the Higher Education industry.
  • Prefer experience leading volunteer groups, youth groups, event planning or similar activities.
