Position Summary

Thisposition is funded by a Title V Hispanic Serving Institution grant, designed toincrease the institutional capacity to serve Hispanic and Low-income students,funded through 09/30/2021.

The Student SuccessSpecialist Sr. will participate in a variety of programs, services, andinitiatives in accordance with the objectives of the Pathways to Articulation and Sustainable Opportunities for Students(PASOS) grant, specifically related to Return to Success outreach and ResourceHub support. The successful applicant will have experience supporting studentsuccess through wraparound services to include, but not limited to:

  • Advisement and recruitmentof former students and/or students who have had a break in their education,
  • Developing andmaintaining community and campus partnerships,
  • Facilitating academic successworkshops,
  • Providing community andcampus resource referral, and
  • Performing specializedoutreach for targeted student groups.

The Student SuccessSpecialist Sr. will work with staff, faculty, and Peer Mentors to ensurestudent needs are being met per the grant requirements to achieve and maintainthe standards set by the funding agency, the U.S. Department of Education,Title V. The applicant works as part of a dynamic team to implement newstrategies and procedures specific to the grant. This person serves as aliaison interacting with internal and external constituencies including TheUniversity of New Mexico-Main Campus, as well as Valencia, Torrance, andSocorro County constituents. This person will also play a significant role inthe development of an on-campus Resource Hub that supports the non-academicneeds of UNM-Valencia students. The individual will ensure compliance withFederal, State, and University rules, regulations, and policies.

Located about 30 milessouth of Albuquerque in rural Valencia county, the University of NewMexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch campus of the University of NewMexico which functions as a community college in the region and is designated aHispanic Serving Institution. With an emphasis on teaching excellence,Valencia Campus offers academic transfer programs, technical vocationalprograms, Adult Basic Education, and Dual Credit High School/College courses toValencia and Socorro Counties. The faculty and staff serve a student bodyof over 2,000 credit students per semester.

Conditions of Employment
  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the USUNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience coaching andsupporting Hispanic Low-income community college or branch campus students
  • Strong interpersonal,verbal, and written communication skills and demonstrates ability tocommunicate with diverse populations, including experience effectivelypresenting information to groups and individuals
  • Strong knowledge and/orexperience responding to students non-academic concerns, such as financialliteracy, broadband/technology access, food insecurity, mental health,childcare, transportation, housing, etc.
  • Ability to lead andsupervise student employees serving as Peer Mentors
  • Bilingual in Spanish& English
