Position Summary

The UNM-Valencia campus is acceptingapplications for the position of Student Success Specialist, Sr.

This is a grant-funded position that ends08/31/2021 and will be renewed annually based on availability of federalfunding. The Student Success Specialist, Sr. is responsible for:

  • Providingcareer exploration to include assessment, evaluation, job shadowing,
  • AcademicCoaching, personal guidance and gathering and distributing informationregarding transfer to include visits to in-state colleges and universities.
  • Assistingstudents in completing, reviewing, and revising their Career and Academic Plans.
  • Projectactivity record keeping; monitoring individual progress through contact withparticipants, instructors, and other appropriate staff.
  • Giving presentations and teaching workshops as needed.

Located about 30 miles south ofAlbuquerque in rural Valencia county, the University of New Mexico-ValenciaCampus is a two-year branch campus of the University of New Mexico whichfunctions as a community college in the region and is designated a HispanicServing Institution. With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campusoffers academic transfer programs, technical vocational programs, Adult BasicEducation, and Dual Credit High School/College courses to Valencia and SocorroCounties. The faculty and staff serve a student body of over 2,000 creditstudents per semester.

Conditions of Employment
  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the USUNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Education, Administration, or Counseling or a related field
  • Three years of experience in resolving complex/sensitive issues related to student retention and success, including providing holistic academic, financial aid, and scholarship advisement
  • Experience working with and/or understanding the needs of first generation, disadvantaged students
  • Knowledge of career planning including career assessments and mentoring
  • Experience as a SSSPstaff or student
