Overall Job Objective

Summary

Under general supervision, counsels substance abuse clients and develops/implements a variety of projects and activities to promote substance abuse awareness and counseling throughout the community. This position will utilize various therapeutic modalities specific to substance abuse and co-occurring disorders

Minimum Qualifications

Masters Degree in the field of Counseling or closely related field with at least two (2) years of experience in substance abuse. Must have a license from the State of Arizona, LASAC, LISAC, LPC. Applicant must be a person of highly stable character. Applicant must also understand the need for release of information when necessary. Must be able to work a flexible schedule and work independently. Must possess a valid Arizona drivers license and be able to meet the Communitys insurance carrier requirements. Must pass an extensive background check. Preferred qualifications: Masters Degree , LISAC plus 4 years of experience in substance abuse

Examples of Duties

  • Develops treatment plans, writes progress notes, makes appropriate referrals, and writes discharge summaries.
  • Counsels clients, individually, or with family members. Functions frequently in Substance Abuse group settings.
  • Remains current on different types of substances and state of the art treatment for those substances.
  • Develops programs to educate youth and other interested parties regarding substance abuse, including drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and gambling.
  • Facilitates various substance abuse groups with clients.
  • Works effectively with other local area behavioral health/social service agencies as needed.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality, in compliance with HIPAA, regarding all matters involving clients both during and off work hours.
  • Will be responsible for running the Substance Abuse Program.
  • Will address domestic violence issues.
  • Works closely with the department clinical staff and provides assistance as needed.
  • Will address Co-occurring issues
  • Will rotate being on call
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of available behavioral health, social service, and social welfare programs provided through Ak-Chin Indian Community, other Tribal , State, and Federal programs.
  • Knowledge of the behavioral actions and physical manifestations of drug and/or alcohol abuse.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to maintaining HIPAA regulations.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with community youth, community members, all Community Department employees, law enforcement personnel, legal representatives, State/Federal agencies, and a variety of institutions and facilities.
  • Skill in identifying resources for referring clients needing programs/services not available at Ak-Chin Indian Community. (Referrals made with the approval of the adult therapist team leader.)
  • Ability to work with inmates in a jail setting, as well as probation, as needed.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to work with children, youth, and adults.
  • Ability to express ideas in a clear and precise manner, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
