Job description
The Network Specialist role is to support the stable operation of the School Districts Enterprise Network. This includes installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing all wired & wireless network hardware, WAN/Internet links, UPS battery backup systems and all associated applications while ensuring minimal network down time. The candidate will also diagnose, resolve, and document network-related hardware and software problems in a timely manner and provide end user training and support where required.
Applicable candidates will meet the following requirements:
* Cisco CCNA Route/Switch certification is preferred.
* Expertise with configuration/operation of Cisco routers and switches exclusively using the Command-Line Interface (CLI).
* Experience troubleshooting/resolving connectivity issues on a complex Enterprise Network.
* Utilization of tools including but not limited to network protocol analyzer, ping/SNMP sweep and wireless survey application.
* Sufficient management of tasks and projects.
* Work with end-users to troubleshoot network and/or UPS systems in person, over the telephone or otherwise remotely to resolve issues in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end-user assistance where required.
* Familiar with protocols/standards associated with networking including but not limited to EIGRP, OSPF, DNS, DHCP, Multicast, Port-Channeling, ARP, ACL, SPAN and VLAN.
* Proficiency with management and updating of inventory.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Must be self-motivated with assisting on tasks and resolving problems.
* Ability to work after hours as needed.
* Ability to address emergencies and work well under pressure.
* Must be physically able to lift heavy loads (over 40 lbs) on a weekly basis.
