Surgical Nurse Residency - Fundamentals of Periop Program

Schedule: 6:30am-3:00pm

Program Summary:
In order to fill current or anticipated openings in the operating room, Steward at Good Samaritan Medical Center will create in conjunction with MNA, a Surgical Nurse Residency to formally train current Good Samaritan Medical Center nurses who have a minimum of two years (2) acute care experience and six (6) months in their current position.

All eligible applicants must:
A. Complete an application on our website. Please include updated resume and cover letter.
B. Participate in interview process of standard interview questions with MNA OR staff and the Employer.
C. Candidate must participate in a two (2) shifts in the OR to shadow an experienced OR nurse which will include two (2) shifts between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. in the OR as well as one (1) on call shift with an MNA RN Preceptor and/or MNA selected volunteer mentor. These shadow shifts will be scheduled by the Employer and will be considered part of the candidates regularly scheduled hours for the week in which they occur.

Each prospective applicant will receive a copy of and be required to read the multi-page publication Fundamentals of Perioperative Nursing, which is produced by the MNA.

The orientation for each OR nurse resident, during which the new nurse is not expected to function wholly independent in the role of OR RN, is expected to be a minimum of six (6) to nine months but no more than nine (9) months unless mutually agreed to by the parties after following the completion of the didactic and simulation coursework.

All candidates selected for the Surgical Nurse Residency agree to refrain from applying for a transfer to another MNA position in another unit until they have completed the Surgical Nurse Residency and worked at least twenty-four (24) months in the operating room following their residency

Required Skills & Knowledge: Excellent assessment, clinical and organizational skills and charge capabilities.

Experience: Requires previous RN experience.

Certification/Licensure: MA RN license
