Preservation Coordinator:
In the Preservation Coordinator (PC) role, the staff member is responsible for the preservation and packaging of deceased donor organs in the operating room for donation. Conducts machine preservation of kidneys, procurement of organs/tissues for research, and heart for valves recoveries. Assists local transplant centers with living related donors. Provides perfusion to local abdominal transplant teams on out of state recoveries.

Job Duties:
A. Organ recovery:
Outcome: Maximize the utilization of all organs to be recovered per OPTN policies, Donor Network of Arizonas standard operating procedures, and hospital guidelines.
Assessment: The PC ensures that organs are recovered in compliance with hospital policies, Donor Network of Arizona policies, and OPTN policies. In compliance with federal laws and regulations and that only those organs or tissues for which consent has been obtained are recovered.
The PC takes on-call status and coordinates the procurement and preservation of organs in the operating room on donors after neurological or circulatory death.

B. Organ preservation and packaging:
Outcome: Organs will be viable for transplantation.
Assessment: The PC ensures preparedness and transportation logistics of appropriate supplies needed for the organ recovery.

C. Pulsatile preservation:
Outcome: Decrease delayed graft function to increase utilization of kidneys for transplantation.

Assessment: The PC provides pulsatile machine preservation of local and non-local kidneys for transplant.

D. Non-local donors:
Outcome: Any organ offered to an Arizona transplant candidate from outside the DNA service
area.

Assessment: The PC provides perfusion and supplies for local abdominal transplant centers on
out of state fly outs.

E. Living related donors (LRDs):
Outcome: A patient from whom an organ or part of an organ will be removed for transplantation into a waiting recipient.
Assessment: The PC provides supplies for packaging and labeling of a living donor kidney.

F. Office responsibilities/miscellaneous:

Attends monthly ORS meetings.
Assists in cleaning and restocking of the clinical work area and equipment.
Provides hospital OR in-service education.
Stays up to date on all SOPs and any other assigned tasks.
Maintains continuing education units (CEUs) as applicable.
Other duties as assigned by Organ Recovery Services (ORS) leadership.

Qualifications:
Minimum Experience
2-3 years surgical experience or 2-5 years OPO experience with a CTP certification
1 year experience with medical terminology

Preferred Education
EMT-P or LPN license
Associate or Bachelors Degree or relevant medical certification

Preferred Experience
1-2 years of OPO experience
