Position Summary |
The University of New Mexicos TRIO Upward Bound Program works to promote high school graduation and post-secondary enrollment for high school students who are potential first-generation college bound students. The program works within Albuquerque Public Schools and is housed within UNMs main campus. Program services include after-school and weekend tutoring, Saturday college preparatory workshops, dual credit courses, summer school, test preparatory classes, and service learning. -Develops, plans, and implements curriculum, lesson plans, and educational programs for student audiences within areas of expertise. -Advises, tests, and teaches students audiences in a variety of academic subjects. Presents and reinforces learning concepts within a specified subject or subject area. -Answers student inquiries and resolves problems related to curriculum and course prerequisites, referring to catalogs, written course descriptions, and other appropriate sources. -Plans, develops and oversees community outreach activities for targeted student populations. Promotes programs and recruits students through networking with local school and community groups. -Prepares appropriate documentation and reports on programs and on student progress. -Coordinates retention activities including student mentor programs, tutor services, advising, and study skills workshops; plans, develops, and coordinates special events. -Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. This position is multifaceted and impacts many key performance initiatives the university promotes to ensure that students are successful at UNM. As a result, the ability and willingness to collaborate with other departments, academic units, internal/external donors, and other university stakeholders is essential. Minimum Qualifications |
Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. |
Preferred Qualifications |
-Current NMPED Secondary Teaching License or within 6 months of completing coursework/hours towards license -Endorsement/s in Science and/or Math (Geom., Alg. II, Pre-Calc.) -Bilingual in Spanish and English -Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. -Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. -Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. -Ability to plan and implement promotional programs. -Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies. -Knowledge of young adult learning theory and methodologies. -Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops. |
