    Number of Positions: 1 Position for the Visually Impaired Dorm
    4 Positions for the Deaf/HH Dorm
    Other: This position requires weekends.
    CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Minimum of an A.A. Degree or equivalent (60 semester hours) in the field of work or an A.A.
    Degree or equivalent in any field with directly applicable experience; beginning sign language skills or willingness to learn if working with MD students; intermediate sign language skills if working with HI students; skill in Braille or willingness to learn if working with VI students; CPR certification and/or lifesaving techniques and CIT certification or obtain within the first 90 days of employment.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    B.A. Degree in Education, Social Work, Child Development, Psychology, Special Education,
    Sociology, Rehabilitation, Recreation, or related fields; experience in counseling, education, child care, or recreation with groups of children; experience designing and/or implementing behavior programs, educational, and recreational activities; course work/experience working with students having multiple disabilities.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Supervise students to ensure their safety and welfare at all times; develop, implement, and support programming to meet educational, social, and emotional needs; maintain professional reports and records as assigned; provide consistency in behavior management; assist students in developing personal behavior management strategies; safely lift and transfer non-ambulatory students; plan and implement a balanced program of activities; act as an advocate for assigned students.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
    Knowledge of behavior management strategies and the fundamentals of developing programs;
    excellent receptive and expressive manual communication skills; ability to plan and implement
    educational, social, and independent living skills activities; ability to identify an individual's needs and to develop goals and objectives to address them; ability to communicate in writing in a professional manner; ability to analyze a situation and take appropriate action; and other related duties as assigned.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
    Must utilize appropriate personal protective equipment as required.
