THE OPPORTUNITY:

Freedom is seeking a Technical Accountant supporting the Center of Excellence (COE) controllership team. The COE is a dynamic team that supports accounting operations across all business units performing technical accounting research, internal control for financial reporting (ICFR), governance, financial reporting, financial reviews and special projects. Our ideal candidate will bring his/her accounting expertise working with the business, auditors, regulators, and controllership to position the organization to meet compliance within a high growth trajectory.

THE ROLE:

  • Work cross-functionally with other groups to foresee potential accounting issues and recommend practical solutions associated with contemplated business transactions and due diligence for potential mergers and acquisitions.
  • Monitor business activities, ensure timely identification of accounting and financial reporting matters and prepare high quality accounting memorandums for senior management and auditors.
  • Assist with the practical application of accounting matters within the Controllership Group.
  • Analyze new and proposed accounting standards and determine business impact and implement new accounting standards with the Controllership Group, as required.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of corporate accounting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare analyses of data and support for technical matters and present findings and challenges for evaluation.
  • Participates in both formal and informal reviews with business units to ensure financial statement disclosures are complete and accurate.
  • Prepare and present training and other presentations on a variety of accounting topics.
  • Assist in the evaluation, update and maintenance of key controls over financial reporting and the related key reports.
  • Represent the company professionally as a subject matter expert, both internally and externally.
  • Leads special projects covering process optimization, implementations and integrations.

  • REQUIREMENTS/CHARACTERISTICS:
  • CPA required, MBA plus
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Advanced excel and documentation skills
  • Strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills
  • Strong understanding of GAAP as well as ability to clearly and concisely document and effectively communicate complex accounting and reporting issues to finance and non-finance personnel
  • Financial services industry experience a plus
  • Public Company experience a plus
  • Oracle experience a plus
