This is a hybrid position (remote 3 days/week).

The Enterprise Network and Voice Services section within ITS implements, maintains and manages UC San Diegos networks focusing on wired and wireless network operations (NetOPS); network services; network integration and monitoring; installation and repair; voice and video; audio-visual and engineering; outside plant design and engineering/node room management, telecom project management/planning and licensing. ITS liaises with Network Architects, Network Security Team and other workgroups within IT Services and with many other campus departments such as Capital Program Management, Facilities Management, CalIT2, Engineering, San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC), Health Sciences IT, ResNet, the Library and the research community.
This position will be working on planning and estimating of structured cabling system for inside and outside plant using CAT6A and fiber optic cables for: building undergoing next generation network upgrades (NGN upgrades), new building construction projects and new building renovation projects. Will liaise with UC San Diego Capital Program Management (CPM) architects and engineers on new building projects. Additionally, the successful candidate will be working with UC San Diego IT Services network engineers on network designs of wired and wireless technologies for the above-mentioned projects. Responsibilities:
- Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced technical project manager professional with a full understanding of project management frameworks and methods, relevant policies and procedures to resolve wide range of issues.
- Selects methods and techniques to obtain solutions.
- Manages projects of diverse scope, size, impact, budget and/or project team size.
- Reviews project plans and specifications.
- Analyzes the telecommunications requirements needed to support new clients, new buildings and enhancements to the existing networks.
- Proposes designs and solutions to a wide range of technical and other problems.
- Prepares written scope of work and budgets and presents them to clients.
- Analyzes and responds to RFIs.
- Performs analysis of project submittals, as-built drawings and record documents. Accepts or rejects these documents according to accuracy.
- Collaborates with project teams on design of telecommunications infrastructure.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification preferred.
- Requires basic knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts.
- Demonstrated competency in selecting and implementing project management methods and techniques.
- Ability to perform reasonable financial analysis and to effectively manage multiple budgets each up to approximately $500,000 or higher.
- Skilled at organizing and prioritizing work to meet all deadlines in an environment of multiple projects and changing priorities.
- Knowledge of telecommunications industry cabling standards and certification schemes. (IEEE, BICSI etc.)
- Working knowledge of gigabit Ethernet, WiFi, fiber optics and cellular DAS technologies. Knowledge of telecommunications cabling industry standards.
- Proven leadership ability.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to put forth persuasive arguments.
- Ability to present written and oral reports to upper management pertaining to project status, network designs, cable plant and telecommunications support.
- Good working knowledge of the principles and methods of outside plant and inside cable plant engineering and record keeping, including fiber, twisted pair and broadband technologies.
- Must pass a background check. Job offer is contingent on clear background check.
