JOB SUMMARY:
Under basic supervision, maintains the County telecommunications network and equipment; completes daily work orders for moves, adds, and changes to network connections and infrastructure.

  • Maintains the County telecommunications network and equipment, including telephone, fax, camera, copper and fiber line, and LAN/WAN/phone connections throughout Pinal County's IT infrastructure.
  • Supports, repairs, and replaces voice network services and equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and test, T1's, 1FB's, ISDN, DSL, phones, and other telecommunications components.
  • Processes and completes daily work orders; responds to inquiries and prioritizes requests for service, including moves, adds, and changes, to voice, data, and security systems.
  • Performs basic level phone system programming and installation.
  • Maintains and enhances cable infrastructure for voice, data, and security systems; maintains and upgrades Main Distribution Frame (MDF) for servers, hubs and routers; and Independent Distribution Frame (IDF) for fiber optic cable connections, hubs and patch panels; maintains systems according to Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) standards.
  • Maintains and updates 9-1-1 location-level data, phone directory listings, circuit ID records for voice and data, records, and inventory information.
  • Supports enterprise voice messaging services, and maintains voicemail accounts.
  • Maintains network power systems; provides 1st level on-call support for voice and data systems.
  • Documents work completed and maintains records; notifies manager and other technicians of unusual problems or problem trends in order to facilitate continued improvement of telecommunications services.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records and restricted County information; performs related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent;
  • Two (2) years experience maintaining telecommunications systems
  • OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Telecommunications hardware and software systems, networks and telecommunications equipment infrastructure.
  • Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) codes and standards.
  • County safety policies and procedures, and OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Using basic tools, equipment and procedures for repairing telecommunications systems and components.
  • Reading and interpreting technical diagrams and interpreting technical instructions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Special work demands may be defined for some positions in this job classification; may occasionally be required to bend, stoop, crawl, and navigate tight spaces. Requires vision capacity to perform fine calibrations and differentiate between colored wires. Independent body mobility to stand, walk, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time and/or drive a vehicle. Manual dexterity to reach, and grasp; manual dexterity to hand write or use computer keyboard; vision sufficient to see/read; hear and speak to communicate with customers in person and over the phone.
