Accountable To: Health Service Coordinators

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary:

Under general direction, incumbent(s) screens hearing and vision according to District supported methods and protocols. Incumbent(s) Maintains, sets up, and operates screening equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Screens hearing by using puretone hearing equipment, recording results, and reporting results to school health personnel.
  • Screens vision by using District supported methods, recording results, and reporting results to school health personnel.
  • Maintains hearing and vision equipment. Transports and sets up equipment at each site.
  • Organizes screenings with school personnel. Maintains positive relationship with students to ensure accurate testing.
  • Trains and organizes volunteers to assist with the hearing and vision screenings.
  • Attends trainings and meetings established by the Health Services Department. Attends and completes hearing certication screening training sponsored by the District.
  • Perform other job related duties

Required Qualifications:

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired.

Preferred Qualifications:

It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

  • One year of hearing and vision screening experience;
  • Possession of a Registered Nurse (RN) License;
  • One year of working experience with children.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Applying universal precautions and infection control techniques;
  • Understanding the use of hearing and screening equipment;
  • Applying organizating techniques;
  • Knowing first aid procedures;
  • Assessing hearing and vision within scope of training;
  • Maintaining paperwork and supplies in an organized manner;
  • Engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
