Position Summary
The Division of Physical Therapy in the Department of Orthopaedics &Rehabilitation in the School of Medicine, Health Sciences Center, University ofNew Mexico has a Temporary Part-time Faculty lab assistant position availableto assist with teaching PT 608L, Neurologic Evaluation and Treatment III, and PT 670, Gerontology,to second-year Physical Therapy students during the spring semester of 2021. These courses are designed to provide the PT student with the knowledge ofcurrent models of physical therapy for adults and seniors with variousconditions that impact movement, function, life roles and quality of life. Commondiagnoses covered within the neurologic course include stroke, traumatic braininjury, spinal cord injury and degenerative diseases. Gerontology emphasizesthe complexity of the aging process and will include in-depth study of issuesunique to treating the diverse older populations health and well-beingincluding issues related to physical, psychosocial, and environmental factors. Thecourses are delivered as a hybrid model including online or in-person lecture,discussion groups, labs, and experiential learning. PT 608L is an eight-creditcourse, held four half days per week, and PT 670L is a five-credit course, heldtwo half days per week.
Qualifications

MinimumQualifications:

  • Two or more years experience working with patients with neurologicdysfunction and/or older adults
  • One or more years' experience in clinical education of PhysicalTherapy students
  • Current New Mexico Physical Therapy license
  • Must be eligible to work in the US

PreferredQualifications:

  • Current Clinical Board Certification in Neurologic PhysicalTherapy and/or Geriatric Physical Therapy
  • Evidence of expertise in this area including conductingworkshops or trainings, conference presentations, and publications
  • Evidence of developing career in the required field (i.e. continuingeducation) including attendance at state and national conferences that promoteevidence-based practice; clinical certifications
  • Advanced degree - DPT and/or PhD
