Job Summary:

The Information Services Division (ISD) is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as an Mainframe Operations Analyst. This position is responsible for ensuring that agency mainframe and network processing requirements are met. This position works closely with the Technical Support staff in operational product installs and/or changes to the mainframe and network which impact the environment. This position monitors, reviews, analyzes and coordinates with application staff in identifying potential problems and resolutions prior to impacting production cycles.

Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Analyze the production environment, processing performance and resource utilization, making recommendations to enhance and improve the overall processes of daily production schedule to better service our client both internal and external.
  • Implement into production all necessary new and/or modified changes to applications production environment as required, ensuring completeness as defined by standards.
  • Adjust the production schedule to meet the demands by altering various processes to accommodate the needs. Be flexible in scheduling to accommodate all requests for a given day, cycle, or job stream to ensure that agency department needs are met.
  • Recommend changes to policies, procedures, standards, and processes as required to establish a more effective and efficient operation. Assist and train staff as required to ensure that all functions of the operational area are performed in a complete and accurate manner.
  • Analyze and resolve production problems or abends which occur on production jobs, finding probable cause and resolution.
  • Setup and monitor the production schedules, making necessary modifications as required to satisfy the production environment. Review processes to ensure complete and accurate results are produced per job requirements.
  • Respond promptly to customer requests. Uses time efficiently, communicates activities and results as appropriate.
  • Produce various management reports that identify departmental performance as it relates to the production processing and operational environment. Completes other duties as assigned and is available to respond to on-call situations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Solid background and knowledge of computer hardware, mainframe operating system, mainframe software
  • Knowledge of project planning, analytical techniques and problem evaluation techniques
  • Solid knowledge of Job Control Language (JCL), system utilities and functional products such as TSO, ISPF, SDSF
  • Working knowledge of the automated operational software products, such as Control M/D/R; batch processing techniques; and standard operating procedures and techniques

Skill in:

  • Prioritize and plan work activities, meet deadlines and communicate results
  • Written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Interpersonal, people and customer service skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Solid knowledge of mainframe infrastructure technologies, job control to effectively maintain workflow

  • Work collaboratively in teams and across organization
  • Work with minimal guidance, regularly participating in review of assigned and completed tasks
  • Work in a remote environment
Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Associates degree in Computer Sciences or closely related.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in mainframe operations administration involving job scheduling functions (or equivalent experience).
Pre-Employment Requirements:

* Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees.

* Successfully pass fingerprint background check, prior employment verifications and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agencys ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.

* Travel may be required for State business. Employees who drive on state business must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.) AND have an acceptable driving record for the last 39 months including no DUI, suspension or revocations and less than 8 points on your license. If an Out of State Driver License was held within the last 39 months, a copy of your MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) is required prior to driving for State Business. Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.
