Job Summary:

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Medical Compliance Intern. This position is an Intern being paid with Limited funding working 18 hours per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and will not exceed 18 weeks in assignment. This Position will be working 18 hours per week (Days and times will vary) and will not exceed 18 weeks in assignment. This position will report to a Supervisor in the AHCCCS Office of Inspector General (OIG). This individual will be assisting the Auditors, Investigators, and Admin Staff working with Providers, AHCCCS Members, Contractors, and internal staff with Audits and Investigations, processing and validating information, and conducting research as needed, generating required reports and correspondence, and other duties as assigned.

Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* With guidance from an Auditor, Investigator, or an OIG Supervisor, will assist with Audits, Investigations, and supporting tasks relating to Providers, AHCCCS Members, and Contractors to ensure compliance and integrity with program requirements; to provide assistance on Audits and Investigations on programs and initiatives as deemed necessary.
* Ability to analyze, research, and interpret data to effectively communicate Audit and Investigation outcome results.
* Research and comprehend Federal and State Statutes as pertaining to AHCCCS and Medicaid, AHCCCS Policies, as well as Medical coding.
* Exhibit oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate; Produce high level reports and correspondence for internal and external customers.
* Interact with internal and external customers at various levels, providing guidance and technical assistance as needed.
* Coordinate activities with Federal and State regulations, contracts, policies, and guidelines to ensure compliance.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge Of:
* Under the guide of an Auditor, Investigator, or OIG Supervisor, strengthen and develop skills of: research, written and verbal communication, government process experience related to auditing and investigating, process improvement, Medicaid, behavioral health, data collection/metrics, medical coding/billing and claim encounters, and reconciling records.

* The intern must have knowledge of basic Health Care Compliance principles and practices, data validation and analysis and audit and investigation processes

Skilled In:
* Research, mathematics, data analysis, problem solving, computer skills that include Microsoft Office and Google Suite

* Written and verbal communication

Ability to:
* Under the guide of an Auditor, Investigator or OIG Supervisor, increase ability to: analyze, interpret, and communicate data, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, conduct multiple audits and tasks, perform accurate and timely work with minimal supervision, take initiative
* Work in a team environment, plan, summarize, and analyze large amounts of complex information and data and present information in a clear and concise fashion into formal reporting documents

Qualifications:

Minimum:
* Student will be enrolled in junior or senior year of a BS/BA degree program, or enrolled in a Masters/PhD program.
* Candidate must be able to work in the US without requiring sponsorship.
* Student must have a GPA of 3.0 or better.

Preferred:
* Selective preference will be given to students with emphasis in healthcare compliance and/or have developing knowledge and experience related to Auditing, Investigating, Criminal Justice, Statistics, Health Care, or Medical Care.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

* Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees.

* Successfully pass fingerprint background check, prior employment verifications and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agencys ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.

* Travel maybe required for State business. Employees who drive on state business must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.) AND have an acceptable driving record for the last 39 months including no DUI, suspension or revocations and less than 8 points on your license. If an Out of State Driver License was held within the last 39 months, a copy of your MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) is required prior to driving for State Business. Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.
