The Tool and Die Maker is responsible for working independently laying out, constructing, and repairing tools, gauges, jigs and dies per blueprints.
- Reads and interprets engineered drawings, and specifications of tools, dies, prototypes or models
- Positions, measures and secures castings for machining
- Uses hand tools and operates other equipment such as lathes, grinders, drill presses, etc.
- Repairs equipment per blueprints and dimensions
- May heat treat parts to ensure conformity to tolerances and specifications
- Verifies precise measurements using micrometers, Vernier calipers and electronic measuring devices
- Completes dimensions & tolerances and set up of machine tools
- Tests completed tools dies, jigs or fixtures
- Tig/Mig weld on tools/dies
- Troubleshoot tool & die issues while in the press
- Performs preventative maintenance on all dies and ensures dies are ready for production
- Must be able to make continuous improvements on tools without guidance from tooling manager or supervisor.

- Certification of Qualification for Tool & Die Maker
- Experience in a manufacturing environment and ability to work independently
- Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Ability to operate all tool room equipment
- Must have strong knowledge of transfer and progression dies
- Must have knowledge of part quality knowledge, Fit & Form
- Must be able to communicate all die issues and understand the presses
- Must have 7 years of experience
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
