The City of Aurora is seeking a qualified Trades Technician to perform skilled technical electronics work to repair, install, and maintain complex process, control, and communication equipment and systems within the Traffic Services division of the Public Works department.
The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first-come, first-serve basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - Inspects equipment and systems to determine need for repair
- Adjusts, calibrates, and repairs electronic equipment to ensure proper operation
- Modifies outdated traffic control equipment to meet current industry standards
- Programs computerized control equipment
- Maintains records of operations, maintenance, and repairs
- Prepares documentation to produce traceable information paths including schematic drawings
- Troubleshoots traffic signal control system failures including communication links between central system and remote stations
- Instructs operations personnel in proper use of electronic control equipment
- Maintains awareness of new technology
- Works overtime, standby, and/or on call duty
- Perform other related duties as required
Education:
- Associates Degree in Electronics or directly related field
Experience:
- At least two (2) years progressively responsible electronic technician experience including repair and troubleshooting of electronic control equipment
- Experience with NEMA traffic control equipment preferred
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the principles of electronics, electrical equipment, programmable controllers, and related computers
Abilities:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens
- Read electronic schematics and blueprints
- Work quickly and safely under pressure of emergency situations
Skills:
- Skill in troubleshooting and repair of control equipment to the component level
- Programming and use of various computer operating systems and software
Licenses. Certifications, and Equipment Required:
- A valid Colorado Driver's License with a good driving history
- Required to obtain certification as a Traffic Signal Technician (Level 2) from the International Municipal Signal Association
Physical Demands:
- Moderate to heavy physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds
- Regular walking and standing
- Frequent performance of activities requiring a full range of body movement including bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, climbing and crawling
- Considerable eye/hand/foot coordination to operate tools and electrical equipment as well as for driving equipment and vehicles
- Vision to read manuals, test instruments, or other written materials
- Speech and hearing to receive and provide technical information and instructions
Work Environment:
- Works both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to noise, dust, and fumes
- Exposure to high/low voltage electrical equipment
Equipment Used:
- This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
