Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Trailer Mechanic on 1st shift at our Elkhart, IN manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for maintaining preventative maintenance services and repairs to Carpenter Trailers following DOT and Carpenter Co guidelines to ensure delivery of products are on time and maintained to ensure product quality for our internal and external customers. The starting hourly pay rate for this position is $26.47 to $27.47 per hour. There is an additional seniority premium and opportunity for advancement.

Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to be in constant communication with department manager, traffic coordinator and co-workers to coordinate repairs and maintenance around the delivery schedule. Works in a normal maintenance and manufacturing environment with exposure to temperature changes. Major challenges include working independently on very involved and complex jobs and the timeliness of the job completion to keep down time to a minimum.

Additional responsibilities of the Trailer Mechanic position will include:

  • Coordinate the repair and maintenance of fleet equipment through a daily repair schedule.
  • Follow all safety rules when working on equipment.
  • Help maintain Value of Order in the Truck Shop.
  • Must have basic mechanical experience as well as experience with hand, air and power tools.
  • Ability to read, write and do basic math.
  • Must be able to work overtime, holidays and be available for call ins.
  • Must have experience with basic hand tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret a tape measure.



Major duties and responsibilities of the job can be satisfactorily performed with a high school education or GED, plus 2 or more years' specialty or technical training.

2+ years of mechanical experience preferred.

Good communication and math skills.

Electrical knowledge would be a plus.

Ability to operate a genie boom, and scissor lift.

Ability to read and interpret a tape measure.

Must possess a variety of personally owned industrial hand tools.
