FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt |
POSITION OBJECTIVE: Incumbents provide interpreting and/or translating services, both verbally, by sign language, and in writing, for the organization. Duties include: facilitating communications between parents and school employees, translating lectures for students, assisting with the preparation of classroom materials, and translating a variety of business and personal documents.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: (positions in this class typically require): Bachelors Degree in related field and three years interpreting/translating experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. | |
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: (positions in this class typically require): Licensing Requirements: Some positions may require: Certificate in Translation from an accredited institution.

KNOWLEDGE: (position requirements at entry): Knowledge of: Customer service principles; Translation/interpretation techniques; Structure and content of applicable languages, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar, and pronunciation; Modern office practices.

SKILLS: (position requirements at entry): Skill in: Using a computer and related software applications; Providing customer service; Understanding written or verbal points being made and interpreting/translating them into applicable language; Conducting research; Collaborating with teachers in planning activities for students; Operating modern office equipment; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
