Position Summary

UNMParking and Transportation Services (PATS) has an opening for a TransportVehicle Service Technician. Our transportation team transports 1.5million students, faculty, staff and visitors to and from the University annually.As one of the first University departments encountered by many guests andvisitors, our employees play an important role in the University's communityoutreach efforts and public relations.

The successful candidate is considered a professional and has day-to-dayresponsibilities requiring the skills needed to inspect, diagnosis and maintaintransit vehicle and associated equipment. To be considered for this position,you must possess a New Mexico Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with thePassenger and Air Brake Endorsements, have at least three (3) years priorexperience in mass transit vehicle maintenance, be able to use automotivediagnostic equipment and hand power tools.

Performs or assists in the performance of daily safety and service inspections,routine system diagnoses, and basic maintenance and/or repairs on university mass transit and relatedvehicles. Cleans, details, fuels, and road tests all vehicles in the fleet on aregular basis.

This position may require overtime and occasional weekend hours.Coverage hours for UNM Shuttle Services are 5 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday-Fridaywith additional special events coverage in the evenings and on the weekends.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a requirement for this job.
  • As a CDL driver, the employee will be required to comply with all provisions of DOT Regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382, including random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least three years of directly related experience.
  • Have a current, valid CDL with appropriate endorsements.
  • Experience working in a scheduled transportation system.
  • Experience performing routine vehicle inspections and maintenance.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Candidates must be able to work 5:00 a.m. - 10:30 p.m., M-F, with nights and weekends as required.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Must have the ability to record information and maintain records.
  • Must be able to follow up and follow through with tasks and duties
  • Must have the ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Must have the ability to perform vehicle safety inspections on mass transit vehicles in accordance with prescribed procedures.
  • Must have the ability to safely and efficiently operate a loaded passenger bus in service as needed.
    Candidates must also be able to provide at least three supervisory references who can comment on maintenance ability/performance.
