About the Role:

Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer is to manage, coordinate, plan and maintain all services and systems required for an organized, multi-disciplinary approach to caring for the trauma patient and maintain State Trauma Designation. Develops, coordinates and delivers educational programs. Plans and oversees program initiatives, participates in program development and administration and participates in research activities as appropriate. Participates in the development of policies and procedures, creates processes for evaluating system performance and patient outcomes. Over see/manage the trauma data collection by the Trauma Registrar. Provide for interfaculty and regional professional staff development participating in case review, standardizing practice guidelines, and directing community trauma education and prevention programs. Coordinates injury/illness prevention activities of EMS with external organizations. Participates in both Trauma and ED PI programs, and is an active participant in ReTrAC (Regional Trauma Advisory Committee).

Education:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a registered nurse, ADN required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Recent experience with emergency room patients, quality improvement procedures.
  • Trauma experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing rapport with physicians, nurses, and other professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and integrate complex and interdepartmental programs.
  • BLS, TNCC, ACLS, PALS certification, along with a minimum of 8 CEUs per year pertaining to both adult and pediatric trauma patients.

Experience:

  • Desirable characteristics include a minimum of five years experience in an emergency room.
  • Demonstrate a clear working knowledge of general hospital operations, a proficiency in written and verbal communications, possess ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with the public; and must demonstrate knowledge of Quality Management processes.
  • Must be able to follow direction and to perform work according to department standards when no directions are given.
  • Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress.
  • Must be able to travel for meetings, training, and conferences as mandated by State Trauma Systems Manager.

Required Licenses/Certificates:

  • Must possess a current NM license as a Registered Nurse or a multi-state compact license that allows the nurse to work in NM.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS & TNCC required.
